Cape Cod 1620

Picture
2020 was the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower, one of the USA's major founding myths. We've created a lots and lots of models on the subject and of course decided a map would be helpful too. This map is by far the largest digital model we've created, containing over 40,000 parts. Most of the parts are in the thousands of tiny trees that were created to decorate it. The environment is somewhat speculative and based on what it might have looked like in November 1620, complete with autumnal coloured leaves. The advantage of doing a purely digital model is that you can use colours for parts that either don't exist or are prohibitively expensive - so there is a nice sense of freedom involved in making these maps! A wintery version of the map was also created to match the changing season and the blogs we posted in December 2020.
